SINGAPORE, 18 September 2018 – Ideas breed creations. To turn creations into assets, however, is not so straightforward. Without intellectual property (IP) protections to safeguard the ownership and rights of inventions, ideas are worthless. As Singapore is bolstering itself for the transformation into the global IP hub, how can small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups leverage on IP to create scalable businesses?
The concept of IPHatch was conceived with that notion in mind. Organized by Piece Future Ptd Ltd, IPHatch is an open-innovation competition tailored for aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups/ SMEs looking to explore the notion of utilizing Intellectual Property (IP) and technologies to scale businesses.
Held on 18th September 2018 at Sands Expo and Convention Centre in conjunction with TechInnovation, IPHatch 2018 promises to deliver more market information and industry insights with the following segments:
ASEAN Mega Trends
The ASEAN Mega Trend segment aims to provide the public with additional insights on the business landscape. Through analysing the governmental and private sector movements transpiring in each country, conclusions on the broad directions the region is heading towards can be drawn. These trends set a context for the relevancy of IP/ technology offerings by shedding lights on the potential fields businesses can venture into.
Panel Discussion by Distinguished Speakers
Distinguished speakers from renowned companies such as Panasonic, IP Bridge, Nokia and Davies Collison Cave Asia will convene a panel discussion themed “Open Innovation with Intellectual Property”. The panel will be moderated by the president of the International Intellectual Property Commercialization Council. The purpose of this dialogue is to spark off meaningful debate and to provide insights into the IP sphere by the industry experts.
Sharing by winners of last year
Having gone through the event/ competition themselves, these start-up owners are in the prime position to share their journey with aspiring entrepreneurs. Three start-ups emerge “hatched” from last year’s competition. One of which, Engage Nova, has successfully started generating revenue within this short span of one year. Another winner from last year, EasyZippy recently debuted their product in Singapore and is looking for overseas expansion opportunities. Andy, founder of EasyZippy, commented during an interview: “This event helped my entrepreneurial dream make significant progress. Not only did I obtain a quality patent from international company, the advisors at Piece Future are exceptionally determined to make my business model work. They have invested so much time fine-tuning my business model according to expert market research, helping me identify a niche area in the market place.”
