SINGAPORE, 22 September 2015 – TECHINNOVATION 2015 opened at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre drawing a record number of over 1,800 delegates from 30 countries, almost 20 per cent more than that of the previous year. The annual two-day technology marketplace organised by IPI, aims to connect technology providers and facilitate technology matching and collaboration opportunities across industry sectors through open innovation and crowdsourcing. Guest-of-Honour Mr S ISWARAN, Minister in Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade and Industry, delivered the opening address.
In its fourth year, TECHINNOVATION has established itself as a premier technology brokerage event in Asia. This unique networking and business collaboration platform is part of IPI’s strategy to help SMEs access directly technology, expertise and the international network to uncover innovation opportunities and grow their business. Since 2012, TECHINNOVATION has reached out to almost 5,000 delegates and featured close to 1,000 technologies.
Delegates can learn from the best innovators through plenary sessions helmed by some of the foremost thought leaders and innovation practitioners. Keynote speakers, Mr David Wu, Director and General Manager from Flextronics Consumer Engineer Team, presented how collective innovation accelerated its product development journey; while Mr Chew Ker Yee, Vice President, Business Operations from Wangi Industrial, spoke about how it created innovation without an in-house R&D team. Wangi Industrial, a local SME enlisted IPI’s support to in-source the right technology and expertise to develop the next generation of protective nanotechnology-based glass coating. After a 24-months project facilitated by IPI, Wangi established an in-house R&D team for new technology developments. It had now acquired the know-how to develop and apply the specialised coating for glass and is filing patents for the process and formulation as part of its IP strategy.
Over 80 exhibitors from 15 countries will present more than 270 ready-to-market enabling technologies through exhibition and fast-paced technology pitches. Highlights include opportunities to find collaborative projects with global and major corporations such as BP Singapore, Johnson & Johnson and The Coca-Cola Company. A new segment on emerging platform technologies and applications, focusing on robotics and functional printing will be introduced at the event given the recent growing interest amongst enterprises on how these new technologies can help their businesses in today’s competitive market.
“The industry is more receptive to seek solutions, technologies and partnerships through open innovation, enabling TECHINNOVATION to gain further traction within the industry. IPI has successfully facilitated 350 technology matches and projects through personalised engagements, its online technology marketplace and TECHINNOVATION. IPI will continue to engage the enterprises to help them to grow through the use of technology and innovation,” said Professor Lam Khin Yong, Executive Director, IPI.
